FAQs

What and where is Treetop Zoofari?

Treetop Zoofari is a zipline and adventure park located at the Metro Richmond Zoo. The park offers two courses: the Junior Explorer Course and the Treetop Zoofari Course.

Both courses are self-guided and participants traverse the tree-to-tree challenges and ziplines at their own pace by clipping themselves.

The park shares the same address as the zoo: 8300 Beaver Bridge Road, Moseley, VA 23120. The treetop building is in the parking lot to the left of the zoo entrance.

How much is Treetop Zoofari?

The Treetop Zoofari Course is $55 per participant. The Junior Explorer Course is $28 per participant.

Which course should I choose?

The Junior Explorer Course is best for children and beginners ages 4+.

The Treetop Zoofari Course is more advanced and is great for families and individuals (ages 8+).

Click here to compare our courses.

Do I need to sign a waiver?

Yes. All participants must sign a waiver before beginning. The waiver for minors under 18 must be completed by their parent or legal guardian. The waiver should be completed before arrival to expedite the check-in process.

Do I need a reservation and what are the hours?

Guests are encouraged to purchase tickets online to reserve a spot and save time. Walk-ins are available if the training session is not already full.

Treetop Zoofari is open year-round, Monday – Saturday. Closed Sundays. To see training session start times, view the online calendar.

What is the zip and zoo combo ticket?

The zip and zoo (or junior and zoo) is a combo discount ticket for guests who plan to do the course and visit the zoo on the same day. Guests must check in these combo tickets at the treetop zoofari building to receive a zip and zoo wristband for entry to the zoo.

Do zoo members get a discount?

Zoo members receive a discount voucher for 20% off Treetop Zoofari. The unique voucher code is emailed to the individual who purchased the memberships and is included at the bottom of the order receipt email sent at the time of purchase. Redeem online to schedule a visit.

Do you have group discounts?

Absolutely! We offer discounts for groups of 10 or more participants. Treetop Zoofari is perfect for your next group outing. Click here for more information.

Is zoo admission included with Treetop?

No. Zoo admission is not included or required for Treetop Zoofari. Only zip and zoo (or junior and zoo) combo tickets allow guests to experience the zoo and zipline on the same day.

What are the height, weight, and age requirements?

Junior Explorer: ages 4+, 40″ or taller, 250 lbs max weight

Treetop Zoofari: ages 8+, 54″ or taller, 250 lbs max weight

What are the chaperone rules?

See the Treetop Zoofari or Junior Explorer pages for the chaperone rules required for that course.

What should I wear?

Participants should wear athletic/comfortable clothing with closed-toe, closed-heel athletic footwear. No sandals, flip-flops, crocs, slippers, etc. Long hair must be pulled back. Small fanny packs or lightweight bags are permitted. Cameras (including GoPros) with safety straps are allowed. A jacket can be worn over your harness in cooler weather.

If guests have the incorrect shoes, they can reschedule for another day/time or purchase a $10 shoe rental (our sizes are limited).

What animals will I see?

Participants on the Treetop Zoofari Course can see tapirs, capybaras, toucans, gazelles, monkeys, emus, kangaroos, antelope, flamingos, siamangs, and more.

Unlike treetop, the Junior Explorer Course does not zipline above the zoo, so participants will only see sheep, goats, and pigs.

How long does it take?

The course duration from check-in to finish depends on skill set, time of day, weather, and how busy the course is.

The Junior Explorer Course generally takes 60 – 90 minutes to complete.

Most guests finish the Treetop Zoofari Course in 2-3 hours, although some can do both in less time.

What equipment will I use?

Participants will wear a safety harness with two carabiner clips and one zipline trolley and use gloves. All equipment is provided. Junior Explorer harnesses do not have a zipline trolley and the participants don’t need gloves.

Can I bring my own equipment?

No. Participants must use equipment provided by the zoo.

Guests’ personal leather gloves may be permitted for use on Treetop Zoofari if approved upon staff inspection.

Is it safe?

We pride ourselves in providing a safe environment for outdoor adventure. All participants will wear harnesses and learn to use the safety equipment. Participants must pass a training orientation before beginning either course. Participants must be clipped into the red safety line at all times. Trained team members monitor participants the entire time.

Our equipment and courses are inspected regularly.

All adventure park activities come with inherent risks. Treetop Zoofari was designed and built to ANSI, ASD, and ACCT standards by Treetop Concept.

Is water available?

Drink plenty of water before starting. In the summer, we offer 3 water stations with complimentary cups throughout the Treetop Zoofari Course.

Where do I store personal belongings?

We do not have lockers, so most personal belongings should be left in your vehicles out of sight. Our team members can hold keys, phones, etc. inside the building. They will retrieve them after completing the course. We will not hold wallets with cash or credit cards.

Small fanny packs and lightweight bags are permitted on the course to hold personal items. If you drop an item, it may not be able to be retrieved depending on where it fell.

The zoo is not responsible for lost, stolen, or damaged personal belongings.

How do I change my reservation?

Guests can reschedule their tickets through the order management link on the order receipt email up to one hour before the event.

What happens if it rains or storms?

Both courses are open rain or shine. The trees in the forest provide decent coverage from rain. You can come prepared with a rain jacket and enjoy your visit or reschedule your tickets through the order management link on your order receipt email up to one hour before.

During severe weather (thunderstorms), team members will evacuate participants to safety. After the storm passes, participants can go back up on the course. If the course closes due to severe weather and depending on where you were taken down, you may be allowed to return in the next 30 days and complete the course from where you were removed.

How do I stop on the ziplines?

Participants brake manually with a gloved hand on the Treetop Zoofari Course. They will be taught how to do this and practice during the training session before beginning the course. Braking is an important and required skill to learn.

The ziplines on the Junior Explorer Course do not require manual braking.

Can I choose to get down early?

Both courses travel tree-to-tree until touching down on the final zip. However, there are a few early exits participants can choose to take if they wish to get down early.

All sales are final. No refunds or rainchecks are given, including to guests who choose to end their adventure early.

What happens if I can't pass the training session or change my mind about the course?

All sales are final. No refunds or rainchecks. For guests who can’t pass the training session or change their minds before beginning the course, a training session fee (25% of the regular ticket) will be taken from the original payment and the remaining balance will be returned on a zoo gift certificate.

No refunds or rainchecks once a guest begins the course.

Can I watch my friends on the course without participating myself?

For the Junior Explorer Course, guests can watch their friends and family on the entire course and follow along on the path below.

This is not possible for the Treetop Zoofari Course since it travels far distances around the park. The forest section is not visible to non-participating guests. The only way to watch the treetop course is from the parking lot or back deck to see the final ziplines. Or you can enter the zoo with admission and watch the ziplines in the zoo.
